The NY Times did an article last month about Yahoo and Google plans to “socialize” their email platforms…”Inbox 2.0″ as Yahoo is already calling it. Unifying chat platforms is certainly a harmonious step toward the new breed of social networks.

Gmail and AIM are finally offering unified chat, leveraging the Open AIM framework. After first announcing the plans for the two instant messenger services to be integrated earlier this month, the feature has finally gone live.
